Myopia control and orthokeratology services in Kitchener, Waterloo, Guelph, Cambridge Ontario

Orthokeratology

Ortho-K is a non-surgical procedure that eliminates the need for glasses or contact lenses during the day. It improves vision by gently reshaping the cornea while you are sleeping.

The specialty lenses are fit to be put in at bedtime, and when you wake you will have clear, natural vision. Ortho-K has been shown to slow myopia by up to 50%. Children as young as five years of age are excellent candidates for ortho-K.

Soft Contact Lenses

Multifocal soft lenses are similar to ortho-k in their ability to slow progression of myopia (near-sightedness) They are worn the same way all soft contact lenses are worn (daytime wear, removing at night). The custom design of the lens allows clear central vision, with a peripheral zone of defocus which signals the eye to stop elongating (stop becoming more myopic).

Atropine Treatment

A low dose of atropine treatment is shown to slow the progression of myopia, and is often used in conjunction with other methods of myopia control. The low dose concentration allows clear vision and does not measurably reduce the child’s ability to accommodate.
